Everything's coming up roses these days as an abundance of floral prints are still finding themselves on the runways and homes for the second spring season. Not being much of a floral girl myself, it's hard to find the patterns that I think work for me, but these definitely do the trick...
Pixelated roses take their cue from needlepoint stitching, mixing a vintage craft with modern sensibilities (rug photo via Lonny). I was totally struck by Rachel Roy's pre-fall collection which executed the pattern perfectly!
It reminded me of the Thakoon rug I've been drooling over and is also mimicked in this bag that I've been eying at Anthropologie. A perfect spring compliment, and an alternative to an all over floral pattern, I like taking these mini trends in mini doses.

Design Trend: Off The Grid

With the resurgence of plaid comes a new trend - the always fresh and architectural grid pattern. A fantastic alternative to those who don't want to get too traditional or country with their accent pieces, the grid pattern gives that same classic structure with a clean, modern and somewhat masculine feel.
I love how chic the grid can be in luxurious velvet fabric and gorgeously gilded pieces. Or, you can opt for something a little less heavy with accents like this copper vase, personalized stationery, or pillows. It's the perfect way to tone down an overly feminine space, or add simple pattern to any design.

Mirror Mirror... For a Headboard?

This gorgeous bedroom featured on {this is glamorous} last week caught my eye with its stunningly huge mirror headboard...

I'll admit - I've always wanted an oversized antique mirror to lean against a wall in my living room or entry someday, but the bedroom? I'm not sure...

Then I remembered this room from Paul Costello. Similar idea, with a more relaxed style, and I adore the sheers draped over the bed for a special effect. The bench is replaced by a worn chest, and the drapes are kept light. Funny that the bedding is remarkably similar! I think the simple lines of this mirror are somehow more appealing to me, although less dramatic than the one above. Which do you prefer? And would you dare to put a mirror at the head of the bed?

Trees From The Runway?

I feel like every year someone pulls out tassels on the runway, trying to resurrect what could be the most classic embellishment out there...

... So why not try them on a tree? Channeling a Vera Wang runway style with its beaded tassels (and doing it quite well), this little tinsel tree is totally decked in classic style! Just goes to show you never know where you'll find a little holiday decor inspiration.

Watercolor Crush

I'm loving the look of saturated watercolors right now, and I'm hoping it's a trend we'll be seeing more of.

I first discovered it in Erdem's Fall RTW collection (left), which was a look that continued into Spring (right)...


And in gorgeous rooms like this one from Jamie Drake..

(Wouldn't you love to see a sumptious velvet tablecloth in a rich blue in this setting instead?)

And when I stumbled on this fabric posted by Daisy Chain by Bergamo...


...I was sold! I think this motif would make for some beautiful servingware, drapery, pillows... have you seen it anywhere else?

Coming Around...

... to the idea of circular tables in living rooms, draped with gorgeous rich linens to the floor, lush plants and piles of books...

Red Yellow Blue

It seems like another trend to add to the list these days is decorating with saturated colors. A year ago, if you asked me to decorate your apartment in primary colors (red, yellow and blue), I probably would have looked at you like you were crazy and thrown my hands up in exasperation. (What is this, a Crayola Crayon box?) But, these spaces have made me change my mind...

Now, I'm not saying that this is my style (it's SO not), but these rooms are all amazing examples of how to use primary colors the right way... not an easy thing to do!

If it were me, however, my use of color would look a bit more like this...



This room (featured in Domino a few months back) keeps the space open with a simple white canvas that uses pops of the red, blue and yellow as fun yet sophisticated accent colors. This space is anything but elementary, darling.

What are your thoughts on primary colors in design? Tricky right??

I Fall to Pieces...

The Atlanta based home store Pieces has me wrapped around its little finger. I'm in love with everything about their website, but obviously it's the pieces at Pieces that are to die for.

With a knack for picking up on major trends, here are some highlights:



A lattice lamp! This is a beautiful design, and I especially love it because it has some little yellow touches, and the base looks solid but not heavy. I could really see it in a variety of spaces because lattice is such a classic design, even though it's especially trendy right now.



I want this rattan chair for my bedroom desperately! I'd add a little pop with a fuschia or turquoise colored pillow in a silky fabric to glam it up just a bit.



You'd have to have a heck of a room to pull off this bright yellow mirrored cabinet with bamboo detail, but... all I can say is WOW. It's gorgeous.

Coral Coral Everywhere...

Just when I think I might actually be getting weary of the coral motif, another fabulous pieces catches my eye and I'm head over heels once again.



This gorgeous candelbra from Driade is brought to you courtesy of my friend Sheena at Totally Tabletops who posted it in her blog last week. Made of aluminum and lacquered in red, the flat coral shape makes a strong statement. Since I love the combination of aqua with red, I'd be inclined to add a few candles in various heights, including these Ana Candles from Ana Design, which have always been a favorite of mine.



Balance them out with a few candles in solid ivory and aqua.



Just to illustrate my point, I thought I'd include this room from the current issue of House & Garden. A Florida house by designers William Diamond and Anthony Baratta, this trellis credenza was custom built and perfectly demonstrates how to combine beach style with high glamor.
