TRY THE TREND: BOLD BLACK + WHITE WALLPAPER

BLUE + WHITE FLORALS: GRANDMA OR GLAMOUR?

The combination of blue and white - especially come summer time - is nothing new. But this year it seems to be popping up even more, and in all sorts of patterns and trends. The most recent manifestation being of the granny-inspired variety...

Whenever I see blue and white florals, I instantly think of grandma's fine china. It's classic, but is it fresh? Can we make it modern and glamorous? I'm beginning to think it might be possible! With a heavy dose of white combined with clean lines to counteract the antiquated pattern, it could work. Would you try this trend?

FOUND IT!

Remember last week's post on these gorgeous marbleized flamestitch textiles? Well, thanks to fabulous reader and insanely talented designer Elizabeth Dye, we've found it for you!

I'm so in love with the luxe tie-dye look of this fabric! It's like a watercolor flamestitch fantasy! Apparently Elizabeth used it for a dress she made, and found the fabric right here. A huge thanks to her for sharing the resource!

ON THE HUNT: MARBLEIZED TEXTILES

I'm loving the dreamy effect these marbleized textiles have in two very different bedrooms...


With one suite composed withe elements of unabashed glamour and the other in quiet neutral modernism, the pattern works perfectly in both. Consider me sold (and hunting for resources!).

THE GOODY BAG: RALPH LAUREN

It's Alissa of The Goods Design here, bringing you the best of the best of Los Angeles' interior design events, people, places and things. This week I popped into the Kravet showroom for a little Ralph Lauren Home fete. Delicious food + gorgeous fabrics = a designer who loves her job.

It seems like the next big thing these days is taking a step away from the very "designed" interiors, and moving more towards a layered look - as though it was collected over time throughout your travels.

Love it. Please sign me up immediately.

Gorgeous inspiration image from this season's Ralph Lauren Home collection. I'm obsessed with that leather chair (if you are looking for something to buy me).

The event was focused on debuting some of their new fabrics, and I fell for a few of them... like this brown zebra print (but let's be honest, I never met a zebra print I didn't love).

Believe it or not, this is a silk. It looks like something you might have picked up on your travels in India, but soft as a baby's you-know-what.

RL also revealed their upcoming outdoor collection, and that's when the oooh's and ahh's really started to happen. Their outdoor fabrics are amazingly soft and this inspiration image has me ready to throw a garden party. Now.

More gorgeous (outdoor) fabrics included an embroidered sheer based off the African kuba-cloth.

This blue ikat (on the right) combines everyone's favorites - an exotic ikat AND a chevron. Win-win! And the blue paisley on the left would be an insane outdoor drapery or banquette cushion.

I loved hearing about the design process (they create a fictional character and create an entire collection around that person) but once the fabrics were passed around, I really started to swoon. Linens with a gorgeous gold sheen, luxurious silks, timeless animal prints. So many of the fabrics came with a patina - already sun-kissed or tea-stained. I was in decorator heaven.

POWER (PATTERN) PLAY

Have you ever found a pattern you loved but thought - there's no possible way I could use this. It's just way too busy to put in my home...

Well, my friends, this is how you do it and get away with it! Keep it simple. If you're going to do this on a traditional sofa, make it a very straight lined mid-century modern style. I love the idea of the bench seats though - the fabric almost appears to float, and all the white helps keep things light!

The fact that the pattern is small scale helps too - the further away you are, the more the pattern blends into a solid. And, did you notice how symmetrical each cushion is? They're exactly the same, helping give order to what could be total visual chaos. That's the work of a professional!  I'm also loving the color punches added to the rest of the room - especially the ceiling! Very well played.

THE MAR A MAR COLLECTION

I am a huge fan of the bold, worldly patterned rugs at Decorative Carpets, and am loving their latest collection - Mar a Mar...

Such a variety of influences here, I don't know which would be my first pick! Aqua zig zags? Blue deco fans? Red medallions? If you've never browsed through their site, I recommend it - if nothing else some major pattern and color inspiration awaits!

CHINTZY CHIC?

Exactly one week from today I'll be turning 30. Maybe this accounts for a total change of heart and sudden love for vintage inspired chintz and florals? Or maybe Designers Guild has just done a genius job in making the motif incredibly appealing...

Loving the garden roses on the left paired with the classic octagon pattern (and grey+white stripes!) on the right. Can I put them both in a room? Maybe just line them up together down the hallway? (I'm kidding people. I haven't gone senile quite yet...)

But seriously - have I lost it? Or is this not making you want to update the 'chateau' with fresh panels of colorful florals? Well, at least the guest room. Which is exactly what I'm doing for my old bedroom at my parent's house... You can expect a peek at it when it's all done! And lots more floral inspiration on the blog to come...

COZY UP TO CALPYSO

I think may be color-starved from living with a boy for so long (ok, it's been a little over a year, but still) because lately I'm going through a fuchsia phase and the latest home goodies from Calypso are calling my name...

Don't think it's coincidence that half of these beauties are zig zags. (Gotta love 'em!) If I could makeover my bedroom right this second, I'd top that purple rug with a zig zag ottoman and my bed with that lovely little throw... something kinda like this...

GLOBAL STYLE: OTOMI FABRICS

Hi loves! It's Cristina from Fuji Files here to answer that nagging question: you've seen it everywhere, on tabletops and pillowcases, headboards and bedspreads, but if you're anything like me you've been wondering... what is that print?

The answer: Otomi fabrics! These rich and vivid prints are characteristic of the Mexican Otomi Indians, whose hand-embroidered fabrics are said to be based on ancient cliff paintings. With each Global Style post I write for coco+kelley, I'm realizing just how many designs dating back hundreds of years have managed to maintain a fresh and modern look in the home! 

Otomi fabrics are a fun way to bring a splash of color to your dining table, reading nook (above!), or bedspread. Especially effective for renters who don't have the luxury of painting, try adding some vibrant color to your walls by hanging the fabric as a tapestry or covering a headboard.

My textile obsession has officially moved from pillows to rugs...

SNEAK PEEK: HAMMOCKS & HIGH TEA LAUNCH PILLOW LINE!

The last time I posted on Hammocks & High Tea, I mentioned how much fun a pillow line would be and they let me know that (shhhhh) they were working on one, and promised to send me the fall line as soon as it was ready. Well, guess what? They're ready!

With new colors in some of my favorite patterns for fall, I'm already loving the collection. I'm also promising myself that the second we move into our new place (yes, still apartment hunting!) I will be purchasing their drawer liners, sachets and linen sprays to get everything smelling fresh and clean! (pssst, i think the blue chevron pattern is still my favorite!)

KELLEY GREEN: ECO LUXE GOODS FROM SANG + SERENA

Well, hello there gorgeous...

Many of us wonder if we can have such beautiful casegoods and textiles as these pieces and still be eco-friendly. The answer is: yes! And the company you can find them at is Sang and Serena whose mission is, "being good, doing good, and having good". Each of their stunning products are completely handmade and composed of all natural resources in India, and each step of the process is created to be as environmentally sensitive as possible, especially when importing these goods back to the states! 

Choose from incredible chests, desks, side tables, consoles and even trays to infuse a splash of color and intricate detail directly into your home. All of their accent pieces would work effortlessly in a variety of fabulous settings (from an industrial loft to an ultra-glam apartment), and attention is given to creating high quality furniture that is here to last. They intend each piece to be a potential heirloom, passed down from generation to generation. This concept alone is earth friendly - no longer will you need to replace your furniture every ten years (and why would you if you owned something of this craftsmanship?)

INSPIRATION: LAYERED PATTERN + PRINT

This week at Anthropologie we're beginning the changeover to our fall concepts (yes, already!) and I'm loving the rich inspirations we've been given. However, I always face one big challenge to my personal aesthetic when merchandising our product - how to layer pattern upon pattern upon pattern without it looking like a wild mess.

For those of you who may be just as timid or baffled by using a plethora of prints, I've found the perfect inspiration - this stunning editorial by Andrew Yee...

The trick is to pick a palette and mix the scale of the prints and textures within that palette - a rule that I definitely implore at work and with clients. And if there's one textile designer out there whose line makes it easier for us, it's John Robshaw and his wide range of pillows, bedding and tabletop offerings.

I find the hardest part to be resisting the urge to buy a pair of every pillow, but instead buying a variety of styles in one palette. The better to mix and match with my dears! Have fun!
