ON THE HUNT: MARBLEIZED TEXTILES
I'm loving the dreamy effect these marbleized textiles have in two very different bedrooms...

ROOM OF THE WEEK: 4.21
Glamour. White on white. And a hit of green. Seriously - what's not to love?
I'm pretty sure my next apartment won't be as big as this bedroom, but if it were, this is exactly how I'd set it up. Well... I'd add a little more personality and punch. And hardwood floors. But let's focus on the space at hand. What do you think? Honestly, big bedrooms like this intimidate me a bit. The most I've ever had to deal with was a little space for a small seating area. But an entire living room? And desk?
Now, normally, I might say this is a little *yawn*... but isn't that what you want in a bedroom? Something simple and calming as you drift off to sleep? If anything, I'd change the paint or flooring to something a little darker... maybe the curtains as well. But the simple gold accents everywhere are putting me over the edge in love. And that green color? It's about to be everywhere. Mark my words.
Thoughts? Hate? Love? I don't know if I could honestly live with it... but I know I love it!

PESKY HEIRLOOMS
One question I get asked a lot as an interior designer and blogger is, "How do I mix my family heirlooms in with my modern/classic decor?" The answer??
Despite the many many rooms I have in my inspiration files exhibiting eclectic styles mixed and matched, it seems to be a challenge that in real life people have a very hard time tackling. Do you find that to be true for you, as well?
My quick answer is, it's all about balance and proportion and not being afraid to let that piece stand out. My follow up answer is - heirloom or not, if you hate it, you'll never be happy with it. Find a happy home for it elsewhere.
PS - I love this bedroom. It feels very grown up... in a really good way. (via lonny)

ROOM OF THE WEEK 2.3
After an insanely busy week, I'm dreaming of escapes to quiet places... an old villa somewhere in Italy or Spain sounds lovely right about now...
While I couldn't live a day-to-day existence in something this sparse, I think the magic of an empty room is that your mind has space to breathe and wander and dream up fill itself up. I love this room as a workspace. It seems so meditative with the soft light filtering in and a plethora of floor pillows which I'd surely use to stretch out on the floor in the sunshine. And the rug!! My god, it's glorious!
The simple little bedroom isnt' so bad either...
The two little matching chairs put a smile on my face. Such a beautifully simple little retreat!

WRITING'S ON THE WALL...
Just a little monday inspiration to get you out of bed this morning...
Dolly was right. You'll never do a whole lot unless you're brave enough to try. That includes making bold decorating decisions like a fabulous and whimsical mural wall behind a chic (and somewhat traditional!) little bedroom setting. So, whatever it is you're putting off, take some advice from the wall - just do it.

BRIGHT (BEDROOM) IDEAS
I've been pondering these two little pieces of inspiration for guest bedrooms this week...
This lovingly painted door feels so special... if you could handle your halls being brightened up by such lovely whimsy, I think is would be a very sweet way to welcome guests to your home!
I've also been wondering if painting a ceiling in bright red, just for the soft pink glow it brings to the white walls, is crazy or genius. I'm not usually a fan of red in bedrooms, but in a guest room with tall ceilings an minimal decor...? I'm kinda digging it!

TWINSIES
There's something just so sweet about the notion of pushing two antique beds together like this in a an attic guest room...
Perfect for the dreams of little girls + boys!
We have one very large bed that belonged to my grandmother at my parent's house... I can only imagine what type of room it would take to accommodate a second one that matched its scale, but I always loved climbing up into it when I was little - I felt like such a princess!

COZY UP TO CALPYSO
I think may be color-starved from living with a boy for so long (ok, it's been a little over a year, but still) because lately I'm going through a fuchsia phase and the latest home goodies from Calypso are calling my name...
Don't think it's coincidence that half of these beauties are zig zags. (Gotta love 'em!) If I could makeover my bedroom right this second, I'd top that purple rug with a zig zag ottoman and my bed with that lovely little throw... something kinda like this...

ROOM OF THE WEEK 8.19
Creating a room that's as soothing as it is inspiring is not the easiest feat...
But I happen to think designer Gary Spain conquers the task quite well in this eclectic bedroom done in all neutrals (and it's anything but!).
There are so many beautiful features and pieces, it's hard to know where to start! The variations of pattern (playful wallpaper + classic bedskirt, pillows and carpet), the glamorous full-length mirror between the two windows (although it does look just a teensy crowded, doesn't it?), luxurious fur throw, antique candelabra sconces, and the vignettes created by the mirrors behind each nightstand table... all if it is insanely over the top wonderful in my eyes. The formality of the room is just a bit more than what I usually go for, but it's playful enough that it seems to work. What do you think? Could you picture yourself flopping down on that big bed on a daily basis? I'm pretty sure I could handle it...

ROOM OF THE WEEK 7.29
I love how pink rooms have become so much more common these days - it's a color that is so warm and complimentary! While I don't know that I'd be able to handle this color in common living areas, I really do enjoy it in the bedroom...
Especially when paired with sassy zig zag drapery, and lots of white to balance the room. This space grabbed my attention with this simple seating arrangement and perfectly placed artwork before I even realized it was actually a bedroom!
I love that they added a punch of the zig zag in a pillow to tie it in with the drapes, and also love that they chose a richer rug for the other side of the room to ground the seating area. (Here's a design tip - too many rugs in one space makes it feel smaller and more broken, but because the other rug is a neutral it simply adds to the room's texture and works well!) While there is certainly a mix of eras going on here, the style still feels cohesive and uncluttered, which is especially important for a bedroom. This is also great inspiration for a small studio space - a challenge I may be facing very soon! The only thing I might change is adding a bit more personality to the fireplace with a luxurious marble or mirrored facade. The rest of it? Perfect.

ROOM OF THE WEEK 7.8
I suppose if I had thought about it I would have made yesterday's summery foyer the Room of the Week, but to be completely honest I've been a bit more of a minimalist lately. I think it's the warm weather that brings it out in me. Just like we shed layers in the wardrobe, during the summer all I seem to need is something like this...
An easy linen sofa, freshly striped pillows that remind me of beach blankets and a fantastic piece of art that helps keep the room feeling watery and cool. Tile floors to beat the heat and those color block drapes certainly don't hurt either. Want to stay the weekend?
How's this sweet little guest room suit you? I'm in love with the headboards alone, and I never thought red could look so refreshing! I also happen to have a totally impractical crush on mosquito netting. Never once in my life have I found it a necessary item, but that never stopped me from having one in my bedroom for a few years! Cutest detail? The fact that the ties for the curtains are also red. Loves it.

COCO+KELLEY LOVES ELLIE!
If you were lucky enough to find the time this weekend to dig into the latest issue of Lonny, you might have come across a familiar name...
I was so excited to discover that coco+kelley had been chosen by Editorial Assistant, Ellie Somerville - alongside some other very fabulous bloggers - as one of her Essential Reads! Even more amazing though is the apartment she put together for herself in NYC...
Loved this vignette in her living room that features some of my favorite pieces, including the ever-essential Parsons desk from West Elm in a cheery yellow that plays off the blue walls just perfectly...
The tall ceilings are stunning, and Ellie made the most of them with dramatic curtains and her DIY 'moldings' that are simply painted on! The addition of the rug in this space does volumes to cover a drab floor (always my biggest headache as a renter!).
The space in her home I loved the most, however, was definitely the bedroom. So sumptuous and classic. Her use of luxurious textiles makes me swoon!

HAPPY (R+R) WEEKEND!
For the first time in months I have a weekend with nothing planned...
After a crazy week of work and feeling quite under the weather these last few days, I think it's time to renew my relationship with my bed, get through my piles of laundry and catch up on LOST before the series finale. Sometimes big glamorous plans are overrated... I'm ready for a weekend at home! See you next week with the final series submissions for contributors (I can't wait to get them started!), and some fantastic little finds I'm excited to share...

ROOM OF THE WEEK 3.4
In one last dying nod to winter...
This cozy room would have been a nice way to spent the chilly days and nights, don't you think?? It feels like you're visiting a fabulous B&B or your great aunt in the English countryside... a perfect little guest room to tuck yourself into and read piles of good classic books while sipping tea and watching the snow fall. I simply adore the layers of winter fabrics everywhere too... including the slippers and piles of blankets at the bedside. I'm ready to snuggle in!!

ROOM OF THE WEEK 2.25
This week's room is going to be a little special... not because it's ultra fabulous or extraordinary, but because it's mine... all mine!
Well, let me rephrase that.. it's ours. Me and the boy's. We started with beige walls and a mattress on the floor and made it this! A peaceful little haven (especially compared to the saturated color in our living room) for sweet dreams and lazy mornings.
The room was inspired by these shell illustrations that I picked up years ago from a sweet little shop on Orcas Island that are now perched on the dresser. Soft colors and subtle beachy accents, natural textures and - of course - a little bit of glamour were the elements I used. We also did a lot of DIY, refinishing the vintage nightstands in two-tone, spraying out the knobs on the Ikea dresser in a brassy gold, and slipcovering a thrift store side chair. Our biggest splurge was the West Elm jute headboard ... an early surprise birthday gift from my honey! So... what do you think?? Ready to move in?

Follow up for the ladies who've asked... the paint color is Valspar Lava Stone, the gold piece above the window is a four-leaf clover I bought for my boy (yes, he's Irish), I used a simple spray paint for the knobs in 'brass' (much better than gold), the lamps are pier1, and the 'for like ever' poster in gold (yes, gold!) and cream was a limited edition run that they did years ago... I don't believe it's available anymore.

Speaking of breezy style...
I have no recollection of where this image came from, but it's so where I want to be right now, that I had to use it anyway. Plus I love the subtle use of stripe and grid patterns. FIT FOR A (HACIENDA) QUEEN
The second I saw this quirky little bedroom by Kishani Perera, I saved it right to my inspiration file. Its sophisticated girlie+bohemian vibe makes it irresistible, but it was really the headboard that caught my eye the most...
The way the silver blends with the grey walls is perfection, and I love how the moorish lamps flank each side. Want a closeup? Well, here it is...
Can you imagine how amazingly this material would reflect candlelight? I'm curious how well a piece of tin stands up, however... perhaps a piece better left for the guest room?

GET COZY (WITH THE HOMIES)
Chilly winter nights mean it's the season for nesting, and this cozy bedroom is my official inspiration...
Lots of natural light and soft textures make it the perfect retreat! Just what I need right now as I begin browsing through Apartment Therapy's nominees for The Homies. There are so many blogs on the list that I've never visited before!! Of course, coco+kelley would love to be added to your favorites as well. The nominations close tomorrow, and only the top contenders will move on for official voting, so make sure all your daily reads are accounted for!

Room of the Week 10.22
I find it slightly ironic that I'm choosing to share this piece of bedroom inspiration with you as the Room of the Week, because just earlier today I was saying how I was getting so sick of seeing blue + chocolate brown together...
But, my dears, there's a reason for overdone color combinations... they simply WORK. As I began my design process for my own bedroom, this photo via House Beautiful landed in the pile for so many reasons. The first, of course, being the required balance of masculine and feminine. The second being the beautiful elements brought in - the mirrored bedside tables to add a bit of glamour, the barely-there bedside lamps, a gorgeous, s imple bench at the foot of the bed, and pattern!! The carpeting is simply fantastic. I also adore the bed frame with the tufting and nailheads, which seem a bit over the top to have both, but here it's just fantastic. And, to top it all off... a perfect chandelier. Yes... I could easily fall asleep and wake up here day after night after day...
