THE MAR A MAR COLLECTION

I am a huge fan of the bold, worldly patterned rugs at Decorative Carpets, and am loving their latest collection - Mar a Mar...

Such a variety of influences here, I don't know which would be my first pick! Aqua zig zags? Blue deco fans? Red medallions? If you've never browsed through their site, I recommend it - if nothing else some major pattern and color inspiration awaits!

SEASCAPING

Missing my beach time and dreaming of the sea...  I think these two pieces would be lovely additions to the home as little abstract reminders of that feeling of calm I get when looking out at the ocean...

GLOBAL STYLE: LOOM RUGS

G'day! Cristina from Fuji Files with a post that's close to home (for me). Loom Rugs is an extraordinary rug shop in Melbourne, Australia. As their motto says, "A beautiful rug is at the heart of a beautiful home," and Loom's rugs are not only beautiful, but unique, and recycled!

Loom Rugs are all hand made from natural and recycled fibres using traditional methods to create a non-traditional design. The patchwork look above is called 'Hepsi,' meaning 'all,' and is pieced together from vintage Turkish rugs and kilims that are beyond repair.


I'm also in love with their Old Yarn range, woven from the old yarn of unravelled vintage kilims.

Loom's method of creating modern designs from vintage materials results in a unique invention: the modern antique! An item that is collectible for both its contemporary and vintage value. (At least tha's how I would justify the purchase!)

I would find it so magical to own a rug that had been rewoven from incredibly old, unravelled, rugs from far away lands - flying carpet fantasies anyone?

THE LATEST OBSESSION: VIVIDLY COLORED RUGS

My textile obsession has officially moved from pillows to rugs...


Especially these gorgeous rugs with their pops of unexpected modern color infused into traditional ethnic, graphic patterns.

While I don't know how I'd bring them into my own home, I'm shopping anyway...

A graphic solution? This new style from Ikea. The gorgeous solution? This stunning vintage piece from Mansour Modern. Which would you choose?

A FEW OF MY (SPRING) FAVORITE THINGS...

So so so in love with this combination of beautiful goods for the home in a perfect blend of warm and cool neutrals... with a pop of green of course.
The magnolia rug by Vivienne Westwood for the Rug Company has been a long-time favorite, but I love the idea of pairing it with a strong, masculine window pane pattern pillow in preppy navy and cream. To tie it all together? A gorgeous barely-there blue glass pendant to add a light feminine touch in a beautiful shape.

LOVE FEST

Darlings, it's Valentine's Week, and in honor of l-o-v-e, LOVE, we'll be celebrating with lots of pretty things making my heart go pitter patter at the moment...
Like the gorgeous, gorgeous artwork from Vanessa Briggs (discovered at Revival Home) whose entire 'Sunsets' series has me swooning.
Oversized florals in this fresh and simple dining room by Chris Barrett (via House Beautiful) - love the color of the glass bottles!
And a totally 90's inspired rug that makes the best of some seriously fun colors (by Matthew Williamson for The Rug Company).

Fashion and Design

The award for the most literal pairing of fashion and design came from Bryan Bradley the designer of Tuleh who showed his Fall 2009 collection in the Roubini Casa showroom at the New York Design Center where he is also debuting a new line of rugs. Tuleh is known for beautiful prints and feminine silhouettes and it will be interesting to see how they translate the patterns into rugs beyond those that you can see in the "runway" photos here.

Bradley's inspiration for the fashion this season was the book Them: A Memoir of Parents by Francine du Plessix Gray which tells the story of her parents, Alexander Liberman, an artist who would later head Condé Nast and Tatiana du Plessix, a model and society milliner, and their resourcefulness as Russian émigrés. I have this book on my shelf but haven't had time to read it yet. I hope when I do that it inspires my designs as it did Bryan's fashions!
